I had expected to get some design work done on Saturday, but the phone rang early in the morning. It was one of my favorite clients asking if I would be available for a photo shoot ….. in an hour. The design work could wait because I would be photographing Wes Chapman, the Artistic Director for the American Ballet Theater II, teaching an advanced master class at In Motion Studio of Dance.
This is why I love photography so much. The camera allows me access to places I would never be able to experience without it. To photograph an artist passing down his knowledge to younger dancers, and hearing his stories was a wonderful experience. Here are six images from yesterdays shoot.

Chase Jarvis has developed an iphone app called Best Camera that is really a lot of fun to use. Taking photos with the iphone reminds me of shooting with the Holga. There is a simplicity and a joy of shooting and leaving some things to chance. Remember what Chase says “The Best Camera Is The One That’s With You.” Take a look at his blog. http://blog.chasejarvis.com/blog/
Here are three of photographs I made with my iphone and using Chase’s app for post production.

One of my favorite weddings this summer was that of Katy and David. The wedding took place at David Walley’s Hot Springs & Spa, a wonderful resort in Carson Valley. The reception took place at the Genoa Town Hall which was built in 1886. Anyone driving thru Northern Nevada should make a side trip thru Genoa.
So what I find so amazing about photography is it’s ability to tell a complex story in a short amount of time. I think the photographs below are a very good example.

I had the opportunity to photograph one of the mechanics at the Nevada Department of Transportation. This is one of my favorite types of photography, environmental portraiture. What was also great about this shoot was that I had the freedom to take my time and photograph some of the objects around the shop. I enjoy combining still life’s of one’s environment with the things they see and work with everyday. In this case by taking the time to explore the environment I was able to add content that would give a graphic designer more options in telling their story.
